Digestive System

We have completed the theory of our digestive system and now it’s time to put your knowledge and your creativity together to come up with our digestive system theme park.  This project requires a full understanding of the digestive process in order to translate it into various attractions that demonstrate some aspect of this system.  Make sure that you and your group work together and that each of your attractions is based on FACT and not just fun!  Jump in and create!!!!

Making our way through the Circulatory System

Ok, so we are well into learning about our circulatory system, having learnt the main functions carried out by this system, the parts of the heart, how the blood flows through the system, the various blood vessels and you are working on blood and it’s components.  As you all know, I will not be in school from Wednesday 13th to Friday 15th October.  Go to the Assignments page of this site to find further information on the work you will have to do next week.  Remember if you have questions, send a comment and I will be checking as often as I can.

One system down!

Okay, so we have wrapped up the first of our body systems, the skeleto-muscular system.  We have looked at all the bones of the body, the various types of muscles and joints, and most importantly, how all of these structures (along with tendons and ligaments) work together to accomplish movement.  For your end of system test, be sure that you can: 1. label all the bones in the body, giving both their common and scientific names; 2. describe the appearance, location and examples of the 3 main types of muscle; 3. describe the movement and examples of the 4 main types of joints; and 4. describe how these work together for movement.  Study hard and good luck on Tuesday’s test!!!!!!

The end of Cells!!

Yes my darlings, we have come to the end of our Cells mini unit.  Lots of new words and functions to learn but I think you have a good grasp on what we’ve covered.  Remember you have a quiz on everything we’ve done next Tuesday, 7th October. Please revise over the weekend and do not leave it until Monday night!  If while reviewing you have any questions, send me a comment to this post and I will answer you.  Happy studying!!!!

Welcome to 8th Grade Science!

8th grade is a very challenging but  fun and exciting year!  This year, we build on all the skills you have gained thus far, and prepare you to meet and conquer the challenges of high school and further education.  The Science Curriculum has been changed over the years to make the flow of skills and knowledge over grades be more seemless and logical.

This year we will learn lots of new things and hopefully have some fun along the way.  There are lots of opportunities to explore your individual creativity, to encourage you “inner leader”, and to work as part of a team. Over the course of the year, we will be covering topics in Life Science, Physical Science and Earth and Space Science.  These topics were chosen to prepare students entering HS for the various Science courses offered.

In this website, you will get information about each of the Units taught over the year, which will be updated as we go along.  Assignments, reviews, rubrics and deadlines will also be posted.  There will be areas for discussions about material taught in class, to get help with work, and sometimes, a question or problem may be posted for students to comment on.  As in class, respect and appropriate material only will be permitted.

This website is not to be used to replace properly taken notes in class and HW assignments written in student’s agendas, but as a way to ensure that we all have access to important information.  There will also be a tab where I will add useful websites as I find them, where students can go to find additional resources for class.

Let’s have a great year learning Science together!!
